Developing Players. Building Character.
Strengthening Community.
Since 1976, South San Jose Youth Soccer League (SSJYSL) has been the heartbeat of youth soccer in South San Jose — where neighborhood kids become teammates, rivals become friends, and every match is a chance to grow. Our community-based, recreational league serves families across South San Jose and nearby neighborhoods with structured, skill-focused programs for players U6–U14.
We teach fundamentals, spark passion, and foster confidence in a positive, inclusive environment built for development. From first-time cleats to budding stars, SSJYSL gives every player the coaching, camaraderie, and game experience they need to improve — and to love the sport. Join us where big smiles, hard work, and lifelong memories are made on every field.
A League built on purpose
Our Mission
Founded in 1976, the South San Jose Youth Soccer League (SSJYSL) has been a cornerstone of youth sports in our community for nearly five decades. Our mission is to provide a positive, inclusive, and development-focused soccer experience where players of all skill levels can learn the game, build confidence, and develop strong character.
We believe soccer should teach more than just athletic skills. Through teamwork, sportsmanship, and community involvement, we aim to help young athletes grow both on and off the field.
As the league continues to grow, SSJYSL is committed to strengthening our programs, supporting our volunteer coaches, and creating new opportunities for player development while maintaining the community values that have defined our league since 1976.
Together, we are building the future of youth soccer in South San Jose.
Player Development Pathway
At SSJYSL, we believe in supporting players who are ready to grow and challenge themselves further. Throughout the season, players who demonstrate advanced skills, dedication, and strong work ethic may be invited to train with one of our competitive teams under the guidance of licensed and professional coaches.
Selected players may also have the opportunity to guest play in up to five competitive games at no cost, giving them valuable experience at the next level. This pathway helps create opportunities for players who show the potential and desire to continue developing their soccer journey beyond recreational play.
Zoe 2011G & Ari 2014 B (March 2024)Coaches Development Program
SSJYSL is proud to introduce a new Coach Development initiative designed to support and strengthen our volunteer coaches while continuing to improve the player experience across the league. Select coaches will have the opportunity to participate in Grassroots Coaching Training, focused on building strong foundations for youth players ages 4–12 through a fun, safe, and development-centered approach.
Using the Play–Practice–Play model, coaches learn how to create sessions that emphasize maximum ball touches, small-sided games, and individual skill development while keeping the game enjoyable for young athletes. This program provides structure, mentorship, and ongoing support to help our coaches feel confident and prepared on the field.
Beyond benefiting our recreational players, this initiative also creates a coaching pathway for those interested in advancing their coaching careers, including opportunities to work alongside licensed coaches and potentially transition into competitive-level coaching in the future. Through continued education and support, SSJYSL is investing in the people who help shape the next generation of players.
